TIMe for Straight Talk and Action!
Dear Friends & Neighbours,
Lately, there has been a lot of bickering over regionalism and governance. But I believe what the residents of Bedford really want is action, fueled by a strong voice at City Hall.
The issues our community faces and the opportunities available are well understood. They have been studied by committee after committee and documented in report after report. This has been going on for many years. Progress has been obstructed by a lack of consensus on priorities and the lack of focused passion, drive and energy necessary to follow through.
Focusing on Bedford alone will not bring the action we need. I have the experience and the passion to work with Councillors and leaders from other districts for the “betterment of HRM”. Together we are stronger.
We must act now, with forward thinking, to support the organizations that are striving to attract and retain new businesses and new residents.
I envision Bedford as a strong and vibrant community; within a larger strong and vibrant community.
We can achieve this vision through tax reform, assessment reform, creativity, and collaborative leadership between the private and public sectors.
I ask you to join me in building a strong and vibrant Bedford out of our strong community spirit and proud history.
On May 3, 2008, I would appreciate your support.
Sincerely,
Tim Outhit
TIMe for an Experienced and Proven Leader!
- I have 25 years of Canadian and international business experience. As the CEO of novaknowledge, I have worked to bring together disparate groups of people including business, government, research and education. I have helped them to agree on a shared vision and to get on with the job of turning that vision into reality. My proven ability to find commonality among diverse perspectives combined with my obvious passion, energy and dedication to making things happen, will serve the residents of Bedford very well.
- I chose to raise my family in Bedford and I have contributed tirelessly to the community. For example, I have been the President of the Ridgevale Homeowners Association in Bedford since 2001.
- I am married to Sandra Toze, who teaches at Dalhousie University. I am a dedicated and active family man with two young daughters attending Eaglewood Elementary. Therefore, I share your concerns about having multi-purpose, efficient, and sustainable facilities to promote a healthy lifestyle for Bedford residents. These facilities will engage our children as they grow into contributing members of our community.
- I understand our social and economic challenges and opportunities. As a result, I am a strong supporter of organizations that strive to develop our local economy and society such as the Greater Halifax Partnership, Halifax Chamber of Commerce, FUSION Halifax, Halifax Student Alliance, Metropolitan Immigrant Settlement Association, Envision Halifax, and Junior Chamber International.
- Through my career and volunteer work, I also know first hand the many opportunities and challenges facing our young people.
TIMe for Building a Stronger Community!
Residents of Bedford live in a wonderful area, full of community spirit and opportunities… but it can be better!
I am confident that I have the proven ability to build consensus, and the passion, energy and skills necessary to turn ideas into action and reality.
I therefore plan to take action through collaboration and creativity on:
- Improving recreational facilities for a stronger and healthier Bedford.
- Making streets safer through neighbourhood policing, traffic calming measures, and proper street lighting.
- Improving transportation with the Bedford bypass and more efficient public transit.
- Creating walk-able neighbourhoods with improved sidewalks and waterfront boardwalks.
- Bringing our community together through an efficient and sustainable cultural & meeting place (a community core or a hub).
I would appreciate the opportunity to work with you to help Bedford become the amazing community we all know it could be.
