Who Can Vote?

To vote for HRM Council, you must:

What if you are new to the municipality or you have moved?

If you have lived in HRM for at least three months prior to ordinary polling day, you are eligible to vote, but you must get yourself added to the List of Electors and/or update your information on the List of Electors.  This is done by getting in touch with Elections Nova Scotia.  By contacting them, you can check to see if you are on the list and what contact information they have for you.  You can also get yourself added to the list.

For full information about getting added to the List of Electors and/or updating your information on the List of Electors, please visit the Elections Nova Scotia Voter Information page.

What if you will be away on voting day?

Any qualified elector who is going to be absent from the municipality on the advance poll days and ordinary polling day or is unable to attend at the polling station because of illness or physical disability can vote by proxy.

In order to vote by proxy, the elector's name must appear on the list of electors, or the elector must have obtained a certificate of eligibility to vote.
