About Tim

Tim was born and raised in HRM. He is a graduate of Dalhousie University and has completed executive and management programs at Queen's University, York University, and the University of Toronto.

Tim was elected Councillor for Bedford in a by-election in May, 2008. He is also president & CEO of novaknowledge, a 15 year-old non-profit and non-partisan think-tank and economic development organization. The organization conducts research and holds events in order to advocate for innovation, productivity, competitiveness, and a knowledge-driven economy for Nova Scotia. This progress is required in order to reverse the "brain-drain" and to attract and retain immigrants, our youth, and recent graduates.

Prior to joining novaknowledge, he was Director of Business Development at InfoInterActive Inc. (an AOL company) and World Wide Channels Manager for Electronics Workbench (a National Instruments Company). At age 33 Tim was appointed Vice President of QUICKLAW, the first and largest international online research service for accountants and lawyers, In his career, he is fortunate to have conducted business in 10 provinces, 33 US States, and in over a dozen countries.

Tim returned to HRM in 2000 after 13 years in Moncton, Vancouver, and Toronto, determined to raise his daughters here and to contribute to his native city and province. He has acted on that desire, and he looks forward to continuing that commitment by being re-elected Councillor for Bedford.

Tim has been president of the Ridgevale Homeowners Association in Bedford since 2001. He is a member of the Bedford Volunteer Awards Committee, Sigma Chi, the Board of Governors of the All Women's Empowerment & Development Association, and a member of the Advisory Board for Nova Scotia Open to the World Magazine (a Progress Corp. publication). Tim is a supporter of the Bedford Community Council Association and the Rocky Lake Development Association. He is also a participant in the Bedford Waterfront Vision Implementation Committee.

Tim is a strong supporter of the objectives of groups such as the Greater Halifax Partnership, Halifax Chamber of Commerce, FUSION Halifax, Halifax Student Alliance, Metropolitan Immigrant Settlement Association, Envision Halifax, and JCI that are striving to grow our economy and combat our demographic challenges.

Tim is married to Sandra Toze, who teaches within the Faculty of Management at Dalhousie University and is completing her PhD. They have two daughters, Elizabeth and Emily, attending Eaglewood Elementary School in Bedford. Tim is well-known for his energy, enthusiasm, vision, action, and effective leadership.
